The organization and its mission:
Chartered in July 1986, the Regional Organ Bank of Illinois is the not-for-profit, federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO responsible for recovering and distributing organs and tissues for transplantation in the northern three-fourths of Illinois and northwest Indiana. One of the nation's busiest OPOs, ROBI worked with the families of 287 donors in 2000 to recover 859 organs for transplant. ROBI departments include organ/tissue recovery, hospital development, community relations and family support services. Its in-house laboratory provides histocompatibility and infection disease testing for donors and provides services for transplant centers and potential recipients.

Mission Statement: ROBI's mission is to save and enhance the lives of as many people as possible through organ and tissue donation.
