The organization
and its mission:
To assure that comprehensive organ and tissue donation services are provided
to the community, in an efficient and professional manner. This includes quality
organ and tissue procurement, preservation, and distribution through a commitment
to public and professional education, hospital development, and support to donor
families. We are committed to the development of new and improved methods to
continually assure that our goals are achieved. The mission of the NorthEast
OPO is to improve quality of life through organ and tissue donation. Services
are provided to the community in an efficient, professional, and ethical manner.
Unique
or creative organ donation promotion strategies:
1) Education of primary care physicians
2) Care boxes for hospital staffs to provide mementos for families (e.g., locks of hair or a handprint.)
3) Grant to increase internal nursing commitment to donation which provides specialized training and support for specifically identified nurses.
