The organization and its mission:
Gift of Life Donor Program (formerly Delaware Valley Transplant Program) is the region's nonprofit organ and tissue donor program serving eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and the state of Delaware. Since 1974, GLDP has helped coordinate more than 15,000 organ transplants for the Philadelphia region and beyond. GLDP is committed to maximizing the availability of donor organs and tissues for patients in need. GLDP is also dedicated to providing extensive educational resources for the communtiy to increase public commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Unique or creative organ donation promotion strategies:

Gift of Life Donor Program is considered a model program in the United States. GLDP's leadership role in helping pass comprehensive organ donor laws in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware have resulted in some of the largest increases in organ donation in any organ procurement organization's history. GLDP's efforts in its region served as the impetus for the Federal Department of Health and Human Services changes to rules for hospitals and how they deal with potential organ and tissue donors. GLDP is also the creator of the Gift of Life Donor Medal which is presented to donor families annually across the country and as part of the National Donor Recognition Ceremony.
