From Holland

HOLLAND: THE VITAL SIGNS
by J. Hardam, Publicity Officer for Tilburg

Sydney is getting closer! Time is flying, just like the majority of the people who will be attending the eleventh World Transplant Games. Right now, both athletes and organizers are preparing for an exciting competition.

And after the participants have had the time of their - new- lives, and the best of the competitors have won their medals, the torch will be passed on to the Dutch, who are organizing the World Transplant Games in 1999. Naturally, Holland is looking forward to the challenge!

Tilburg is where it's going to happen. A bustling city in the south of the Netherlands, Tilburg will be putting its best foot forward as it prepares for the twelfth World Transplant Games. In order to guarantee that everything connected with the event will run smoothly, the organizational side of the 1999 Games in Tilburg is based on a firm foundation. The key word is professionalism, and the Dutch organ and transplant foundations will provide their own expertise and support. Our management team is solidly backed by the recommending committee, made up of prominent representatives of government and the business world. Moreover, separate committees have been set up to deal with all the various aspects of the Games, such as Public Relations and Sponsoring, Sporting Events, Facilities, Special Events, and Conferences. This division of labour is guaranteed to make the Dutch 'New Life Games' a resounding success.

As part of our sponsoring and public relations strategy, talks are being held with prospective sponsors, an attractive brochure has been produced, the first press conference has received good publicity, and we're now working on the newsletter. And, of course, we're preparing for our presentation in Sydney. Much more will have to be done before we can welcome the world to Tilburg in 1999, but we're confident that we can do the job.

The events themselves will be organized by local sports clubs, under the supervision of the Sports Council. The national sports associations will see to it that international rules are observed for each particular sport. As for the accommodations, the negotiations are now close to completion. We are fortunate in being able to offer a site which is both rural and close to the centre of Tilburg and, moreover, large enough to ensure that all the athletes will be accommodated at the same location.

Enough for now! We are looking forward to meeting you in Sydney, where we will introduce ourselves properly and give you a taste of what you can expect in Tilburg in 1999. And remember the name of the game: the New Life Games!
