After the first experience of Manchester, in 1995, we proposed to continue with that which we considered a truly mutually binding task which would permit us to return part of all we have received. So was born the idea which was to realize the 1st Transplant Games of Argentina, which would take place in Buenos Aires on the 6th to 8th December 1996, and were magnificently organized by the Argentinean Council of Organ Transplants. After finalizing this, and as a natural consequence, we decided to form a non-profitable Association, with purely altruistic aims, using sport as an ideal bond forward in furthering Transplant Donation. My Transplant brothers elected me President. l accepted the post, aware of the responsibility which it implied, but without a moment's doubt. l had found the doubt. l had found the best way to return the vital gift I had received.
Starting there we worked with much enthusiasm and great faith to fund our objectives. We have already published 2 issues of our magazine, and we are preparing the third. We are joining with all the national and international interests in a toast to the warmth of life and humanity. We have organized and are organizing sporting competitions, conferences and seminars, a competition to select our logo, we talk of the need of donors for organ transplantation. We have completed our respective tasks, and are preparing for the competition in Sydney.
Too soon, we obtained our legal inscription and initiated a relationship between those nationals and internationals involved in sport, and all the transplant patients in the country, whether they play sport or not. We think our magazine, "Transplant and Sport" is a good vehicle with which to secure the communication we hope for.
On August 30th as a way of saying farewell before Sydney we have arranged an Aerobic Day in Buenos Aires, open to all the community. On our return from Australia, we will participate in the 1st Congress of South American Medicine of Sport (9th - 11th October) in Buenos Aires, organize a Seminar of Transplant Organ Donation, dedicated to education and training (November) and come together for the "First Reunion Sport for Transplant Athletes - Running '97" to be held on 5th-7th December in the capital of the province of Corrientes.
Our goals are the Argentinean Games of 1998, the World Games in Holland 1999 and possibly the candidacy of Argentina to be realized in the year of 2003, and the 14th World Games here in Argentina. In all, we have been thinking and working to help others for this 2nd opportunity of grace which we have been given by those who we call "Friend without face" (our donors), without whom we would not be here.
