From the Editor
First let me thank all those readers who wrote to say how much they liked the Journal. Remember, this is your magazine, and if you think it could be improved do write to me with your suggestions. Better still, send an article and I will do my best to include it in the next issue. Photographs, too, will be welcome.

On the subject of letters, I would like to think that in our next issue we could begin a dialogue between transplantees and donors from our world readers. Perhaps you would like to write a letter about how transplantation has changed your life at home and et work, and how you prepare for the Games. Tell us about yourself and your aspirations. An exchange of cultural ideas could be of great value, since the journal is circulated in 43 countries throughout the world.

The Games and the accompanying social events have certainly made the world seem a smaller place, and each Games has been an opportunity to greet old friends and meet new ones. We have also visited some beautiful cities. Why not tell us abour yourcity, and about your perception of the Games.

The Games in Manchester produced some excellent performances, but from the point of view of a coach, there were occasions when I had the distinct feeling that some performances had not been as well rehearsed as they might have been. The time has arrived when competitors should begin rehearsing for Australia. Yes, I do mean training!

I have not included a general training schedule in this issue, but if any athlete feels that a personal schedule would be helpful I will be happy to supply it. Write to me, giving details of your events, best times, difficulties, training facilities and how often you are able to train. Preparation can be extremely tedious, but even worse is the knowledge that one could have done better on the day.

As you may be aware, many of the super photographs that have appeared in previous Journals were supplied by Gordon White, who sadly is no longer with us. I shall not forget Gordon because as well as having memoriesof his good nature and enthusiasmforthe Games, I have a number of the high quality pictures that he gave so generously. He would have been delighted to know that his photograph of the U.K. team at the Manchester Games has been included in the current advertising magazine of one ofthe leading manufacturers of sportswear.

I look forward to seeing you (well prepared) in Sydney.

Yours in sport,

Orien Young.
