- First described in 1987. A derivative of a soil fungus.
- Like cyclosporine, it is insoluable in water, but it
dissolves readily in alcohols and some oils.
- It has very similar immunosupprressive properties to
cyclosporine, but is 10 to 100 times more potent on a per
gram basis.
- Side effects include kidney damage, seizures, tremors,
high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood potassium,
headache, insomnia, confusion, seizures, neuropathy, and
gout.
