In Memory of My Heart Donor

by Miriam Newby, heart transplant recipient

A loving heart still beats
Two healthy lungs still breathe
Two eyes see their loved one
As no one else can see.

No special day is needed
For me to think of you
For you will always be remembered
Since the day you gave me part of you.

I hold you close within my heart
And there you shall remain
To walk with me throughout my life
Until we meet again.

If I could write a story
It would be the greatest ever told
Of a person so kind and loving
Who gave me a heart of gold.

As I sit and write these words
They often make me cry
For the one who died and did so much for me
Is resting at God's side.
