JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: MANAGER OF DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager of Development and Marketing maximizes the effectiveness
of The Partnership's fund-raising and marketing activities, working with
the Board and top management to ensure that the organization has sufficient
resources to accomplish its goals. This person uses a businesslike and
entrepreneurial approach to seeking financial contributions and support/participation
in projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
STRATEGY/OPPORTUNITY IDENTIFICATION

Working with the board and top management, formulate development and marketing
strategy to secure financial resources for the functioning of the organization,
to broaden funding base, to address organizational goals and priorities,
and to take advantage of funding/marketing opportunities.

Identify, prioritize, and cultivate contributors and potential project
partners in the following major sectors:

Corporations;
-
Government agencies;
-
Hospitals and Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs);
-
Foundations;
-
Where appropriate, develop and pursue strategies for individual fund-raising,
special events, etc.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
-
Build loyalty and support from past and present contributors and project
partners.

Work with prospective funders and project partners to secure financial
commitments to The Partnership's work.

Initiate new relationships leading to funding and joint project activities.

Ensure appropriate thanks and recognition for contributors and project
partners.
PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENTATION
-
Generate proposals for grants, contributions, and projects. Coordinate
team input to proposals and tailor to priorities of funders.

As appropriate, make presentations to funding or marketing prospects, or
assist other staff or board members with preparation.
COORDINATION OF BOARD AND STAFF
-
Ensure efficient involvement of board, management, and staff in fund-raising
and marketing activities.

Stay abreast of new project/funding ideas proposed by management and staff;
be on the lookout for potential funding sources for internally-generated
project ideas.
DEVELOPMENT/MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
-
Supervise all development/marketing proposals, informational materials
and related mailings

Coordinate with Communications function on press releases and media relations
that have development/marketing implications.

Coordinate with communications staff to ensure that fund-raising, marketing,
and communications activities are mutually supportive and synergistic.
SUPERVISION/MANAGEMENT
-
Plan, coordinate, and track all fundraising and marketing activities.

Supervise relevant activities of Development and Communications Specialist,
whose responsibilities include developing and maintaining tracking system,
prospect research and analysis, and assisting with proposals, presentations,
and relationship management where assigned.

Serve as member of management team with related responsibilities for organizational
strategy, planning, and management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/SKILLS
-
College degree required, graduate degree a plus (MBA desirable)
-
Minimum 5-10 years of broad based experience in non-profit development
and marketing
-
Proven track record of success in raising funds and mobilizing board and
top management effectively, with particular emphasis on corporate, government,
and foundation funding.

Excellent skills in initiating and developing relationships
-
Comfort in health care, business, and research environments
