Thanks so much for a terrific event. The rain couldn't dampen
anything but our skin, hair and shoes. Enthusiasm and spirit
were untouched! You folks did a great job.

I didn't make it to the opening ceremonies early enough to
get good pin-swapping time in so I've got several N. Texas
pins if anybody wants some. There are many I didn't get
(only about 13 or so). email 2crosses@msn.com

Hi my name is JoAnn Arroyo, I am a Transplant
recepient of a Kidney/Pancreas on 9-26-98. I was at the
transplant games of 2002 in Orlando,Florida. I would like
to know why aren't we on TV. We want to have everyone
looking at us and to get the message out. I am with
Team Southern California. Our Team Manager is the
Director of the National Kidney Foundation in Los
Angeles her name is JEANETTE MARTINZ.

What she did was to give up one of her Kidneys to one of
our Teammates name Julie S. she is doing great. She was
not doing that great when she was on Dialysis. Jeanette
desided to Donate one ofher Kidney's to save her life.
Her parents and boyfriend did not want her to do it.

I thought we could be on National TV. Like Channel 2,4,5,
7,9,11,13, and Channel 34 cable is Channel 6,15,16 these
channels are the spanish channels. This is the way to get
the Message Out About Donating your organ or your can give
part of Liver, give up one Kidney, one Lung. There is too
many of us on the waiting list. When I was transplanted the
list was only 65,000 people waiting for a Organ. Now we are
year 2002 and the list is about 85,000 people waiting. All
you have to do is if you have a love one that died just
tell the doctor that you want your parents, or who ever
they are to use their Organs, eye, things like that.

And they will give that persons body back to you
for a burial. This way the list get shorter not longer.
But it's up to you to save lifes. I would put example to
you all. If it was your son or daughter or some love one
you know you would want someone to donate and Organ
to save your son or daughter or a love one right. So
think about these people waiting on this list there is
some have waited now for 5 years or longer. But some do
not make it, they die. Also please think about the children
who are dying.

But first think about your kids if you have any. If you
don't have any kids than donate one of your Kidney's,Lung,
Part of a Liver-called a Split Liver Transplant.

                                          Thank you very much
                                               JoAnn Arroyo

Hi Everyone,

First of all...what an amazing experience! It was such a wonderful
oasis of love, gratefulness, and awe for life. Truly one of the
very best things I have ever been a part of!

Second, I lost my disposable camera! It only has about 10 or so
pictures on it. It is a green fujifilm camera, and the first
pictures taken on it were of some bamboo at our hotel. If anyone
picked it up, and happened to develop it, and happens to see
this email, it belongs to me...I would be more than
happy to send you the money for the developing and shipping.

To: transweb@umich.edu Thank you for the great coverage at the games. I am a donor mom. I donated my left kidney to my son. I was not at the Livung Donor Ceremony because I was supporting my son who was bowling in a wheelchair. I understand that there were donor pins given at the ceremony. Are the pins available now? Thank you, Wilma in Cleveland From the Editor: Thank you for your kind words. It's hard work, but very rewarding! I suggest you contact the National Kidney Foundation to ask about the living donor pins. They can be reached through www.transplantgames.org, or 1-800-622-9010.        Subject: Team Western New York Date: Fri, 5 Jul 2002 17:07:04 EDT From: Chef4Lisa24@cs.com To: transweb@umich.edu As the daughter of a kidney transplant recipient, i had my first chance to go to the games this year. It was my Dad's 2nd time, by for me and my sister as spectators it was our first. We would like to thank our team manager and his wife, Jack and Janet Arnold for doing all that they did for us over the last 2 years. We had a great time at the games, but i think that we had an even better time at our pizza party outside of LOVE BUG 7. We had a great time in Florida and we cannot wait for the games in 2004, where my sister and I will be with our Dad. He is a great man and without his 2nd chance at life, I dont know where we would be without him. Thanks for all you do Dad. The bowling lanes would not have been the same without you. I just returned home from my first National Games and found it to be an awesome experience. My mom was unable to attend due to my father's illness and this has been a fun way to share part of my experience with her. A teammate located my picture on the Friday swimming section as well as in the gallery-#90! I have written a story in poetry form about my transplant and why I wanted to attend the games at Disney. By participating in his first Transplant Games, Al finally admitted that all he has been through has been pretty amazing. He especially loved the march into the stadium for Opening Ceremonies, and seeing the many age groups participating in all the events. As his local bowling writer I appreciate the web pages detailing the results and will do everything from my end to publicize the games and organ donor awareness through my weekly column. On my driver's license I have indicated I want to be a donor for every and any organ possible. I hope this example will encourage my friends and fellow bowlers to do the same. But, as I look through the pictures, I noticed there are hardly any pictures of the donors. I know the games are for the recipients, but I think the donor families need a bit more recognition. Not meaning from Hawaii, I mean all of us. I am a donor Mom, and enjoyed much of the games and such. Respectfully, Eydie From the Editor: I am really glad you got to attend the Games and that you had a memorable time there! Because so many of the donor family events were closed to non-donor families, we could not cover them. We did cover the recognition ceremony, the quilt pinning, and part of the coffee house. There are also many donor family photos in the opening ceremonies. Sorry, this was the best we could do, given the restrictions.        Subject: Living donor recognition Date: Wed, 3 Jul 2002 12:12:58 -0400 From: "MaryAnnRickus George Marsh" To: transweb@umich.edu Just wanted to thank you for your coverage of the games and events. I didn't see hardly any coverage of the living donor program. There were only a couple of pictures. Many more of the donor family event. How do we access the private interviews that were taken of people during the games and the programs? How do we get audio coverage without a charge? Again, thanks for your coverage. Mary Ann Rickus, a swimmer From the Editor: You are most welcome, we really enjoy webcasting the games! We didn't have enough staff to cover the living donor program as thoroughly as we would have liked, sorry. Just too many events happening all at the same time. You can listen to the audio for free by downloading the FREE version of Real Player --- the direct link to download the free player is here. You can also get it by going to www.real.com and looking for it carefully (it is much harder to find than the higher-end one you could buy!). Not really typing back just to Thank You for your reply though, more to address your request that i mention to everyone else to 'check back at TransWeb for their own fun, info. Yes, I finally DID figure out that your site was down for a while, and that 'on the most important day' (emotional momentum wise), but You might be worrying too much about people giving up on your site; I had simply thought that your site had become "Too Popular" and the server had crashed from it, or that your system simply had 'too many requests' all at once, and i'd check back once all the other transplants got done checking for themselves. I'd feel comfortable that most everyone who intended to go look, will eventually 'go look' again, and deduct that they are simply catching your site at a better time. Most Computer users, even some of the newer ones, understand a site being 'overloaded' and would check back. I D I D notice that in your Track & Field article though, that at the top (before the Headline) that you had a link for Results as well as the Story, Audio & Photog creditsand just thought that the RESULTS for the cycling would show up alongside the Cycling Event too. Didn't think of going to the NKF site for the times, but now will. Thanks again, You all deserve Funding or a GRANT to cover your work here. In 2000, I attended the games, competed in table tennis and in fact, came home with a bronze medal. Actually, it was won by default because twice my opponents didn't show up. Although I checked out the coverage in 2000, I was unable to hear the audio pages. I have webtv and at that time, we couldn't connect to the audio files. This year I was unable to attend but followed the coverage every day from Wednesday on. And the most wonderful part, the audio came in loud and clear. I listened to each and every speech and it was the best thing next to going to the games. I have yet to listen to the closing ceremonies which I will do tomorrow. I was delighted to hear that Jim Gleason received the adult award this year. I had been corresponding to Jim whom I came in contact through the support listserve group about 3 years ago. It was with his encouragement that I wrote my own story, Iris At Home and Iris' Transplant Story. We met in person at the 2000 Transplant Games. Two years ago, Bert Steiner, president and founder of our Have a Heart Support group here in south Florida, was given the award, and we were there to see it. Again, my thanks and appreciation to the staff for bringing the 2002 games into our home. I'll probably spend the next few days checking out all the photos that were taken and shown on the site. Due to domain name server problems beyond our control, TransWeb was invisible from Sunday morning (June 30)
through Monday afternoon (about 4pm). We at TransWeb are of course extremely disappointed that
TransWeb became invisible on the most important day -- the day everyone was returning home from the Games
and checking out the site and (we hope) telling their friends about it. The webcast team put their heart
and soul and lots of sweat and long hours into making the best site we've ever done. We took over 3,300
photos, wrote over 20 stories, recorded hours of audio, and have a photogallery of over 100 pages, all
trying to tell the story of the Games. I am very sorry we were invisible for so long, but hope you will now
tell your family and friends the site is back!

First of all, let me say as a donor mom that my first transplant games was a
very meaningful event. The opening ceremonies and the Donor Recognition
Ceremony was especially touching.

While taking pictures of the quilt panel that my son's square is on,
I left my navy 2002 Transplant Games Bag lying in the hallway. If anyone
picked it up by accident, I would really like to get it back. It had the
program and brochures from the Donor Ceremony in it, brochures from Disney,
along with a tin of cinnamon breath mints, tube

is what I want the most. One of the rolls was my only shots I took in

Nice to see the site back up!

When I look in "Photo Gallery" - there were, up until Saturday, 50
pictures in the gallery. When I pull up the gallery today, the
top right says pictures 1-99.

However, when I start to access the 1-99, it immediately goes to
1-50, and the first picture disappears. Not having been able
to attend this year, even though my son competed, the pictures
are our link to the games. I'm hoping the gallery will be back
in order soon.

Thank you for your dedication in bringing this event to the world.

HI TransWeb,

This site is looking greater & greater. You all must be working 25 hours
a day on this. Favor though please, As to the lateness of the day, the
SOMERSPORTS people told us all that you would indeed have the 20k Cycling
Times posted, as they didn't/couldn't get them processed at the end of
Saturday. I know which 'place' I finished, I just have no idea of the

Fantastic coverage. Pictures, stories etc. are so wonderful. That you
would spend your time and energy covering this event in such detail is
truly both a blessing to the participants and an source of inspiration
and encouragement to recipients unable to attend as well as those on the

No criticism intended, as your task is monumental, but I am

Hi!
My name is Jeremy Foley and I am at the Transplant Olympics for the first
time. Two years ago when the last games were being held, I was too sick
as I was still waiting for my small intestine transplant. I received the
"Gift of Life" on 7/6/2000 at the University of Miami (Jackson Memorial
Hospital) and I am doing pretty well now.
Yesterday, I particiated in a 50 yard dash. I did OK, although I did not
get a medal. Tomorrow, I will have two swimming events, plus my dad and
I are doing the 5K Walk for Organ Donation. I raised almost $300.00 for
this great cause!
I am so glad that the Transplant Olympics are being held. The Opening
Ceremony was truly awesome on Wednesday and I have made a lot of new
friends. I am so grateful to my donor's family for giving me a second
chance at life. I am thankful to all of the doctors and nurses that took
such good care of me when I first got sick in Greenville, SC, and to my
wonderful Pediatric Transplant Team at UMiami. Without all of you, I
wouldn't be here!

Kat!
I saw your picture on the web today (6/27/02) carrying the Tennessee banner at
last night's opening ceremonies! Go, Girl! Go! Bet your bowling score was above
200 today. Remember we all love you and wish we could be there in person.

We are thinking about you, ---Dena and all your friends at LifeNet        Subject: GAMES COVERAGE Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 08:46:08 -0400 From: VanNortwick GySgt Warren L To: "'transweb@umich.edu'" To Whom it May Concern, Just curious, are you all still updating you site? I can only access the home page and backstage, photo gallery comes up sometimes... Have you posted any coverage on opening ceremonies yet? I'm in the Marine Corps and cannot attend the games; I have enjoyed your coverage on past games and look forward to seeing the pictures and stories for these games. My interest is vested as my daughter Abby carried the torch yesterday officially opening the games. Please advise as you are my only link to what's going on there. v/r Semper Fi GySgt Warren L. "Van" Nortwick From the Editor: How cool to hear from the father of one of the torch bearers! We webcasters are indeed here, and working very hard processing digital photos for the web site. Unfortunately, our connectivity went down just before we finished at 4 this morning, so we had to wait until about 11 this morning (that is, Thursday morning) to update the site. Look for more coverage at least several times a day; you will have to use your "refresh" or "reload" button on the browser. Best wishes to you and your family!        Subject: Not to Sound Vain Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002 00:43:43 EDT From: SaraNitewing@aol.com To: transweb@umich.edu I can find an audio recording of the guy who did the national anthem for the closing ceremonies but not mine from the opening one. I know its sounds selfish to ask where it is, if you have it at all, but its just that I wanted my friends to be able to hear me sing but they can't till I find a link, if one exists. Subject: Where are Rich DeVos remarks? Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 14:47:40 -0400 From: "Webb" To: transweb@umich.edu I wanted to send a link to Rich DeVos' remarks to several people and his name was not in the long list of other opening ceremonies speakers on Transweb webcast page. Why was he excluded? Did his mentioning God several times offend the ACLU thought police? Thank you. --- Richard Webb From the Editor: Sorry, we had problems with the audio line into one of the two computers we planned to record audio on, and the audio on that computer ended up with too much static to use, unfortunately.        Subject: Greetings to "Transplant Games" Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 15:36:55 EDT From: PSofmcap To: transweb@umich.edu Dear Friends, I would have liked to be present there, but my schedule does not allow it right now. I had the privilege of donating a kidney back in February (non-directed) and it is a great joy to now that someone has received a new chance at life. Best wishes to all! At these games EVERYBODY wins! --- Fr. Pat Sullivan        Subject: To Gordy Tierney! Message for Bob Garypie -
Hi, This is Scott Zimmer, Kristin's dad. Kristin will be e-mailing you later but I just wanted to drop a note. She's doing fine in fact at this moment she is at an Aquatics school training to be a Lifeguard. She had her Make-A-Wish trip in April to Ireland and between that and finishing up her Jr. in high school the Games just weren't in the picture this year. She is disappointed about breaking her streak of attending the games and being interviewed for Trans web but ya just can't do everything.
Best Regards,
Scott Zimmer From the Editor: See Bob Garypie's interviews with Kristin Zimmer in 1996, 1998 and 2000.
