Tickets, Getting There, and Other Practicalities

Air Travel

Arrangements have been made with Delta Airlines for special fares for participants attending the U.S. Transplant Games. To take advantage of these discount fares, call or have your travel agent call, Delta Airlines at (800) 241- 6760. The special file number for the U.S. Transplant Games is K2785. Be sure to check with your Team Manager first to inquire about team travel arrangements.

Games participants have the choice of staying on-campus in dormitories or off-campus in nearby area hotels. Food service is not included. All Transplant Games housing will be booked through the Salt Lake City Convention and Visitors Bureau Housing Service--your team manager will do this for you. IF YOU ARE PART OF A TEAM, DO NOT CALL THESE PROPERTIES DIRECTLY. If you are not part of a team, call the Transplant Athletics Department at (800) 622-9010 for additional information.

The on-campus housing is composed of double and single rooms in several residence halls in the center of the University of Utah campus. These facilities are a 10 minute walk from the University Union, which will provide food services for the Games. All on-campus accommodations have community baths. The on-campus package is for four nights, arriving Thursday, August 22 and departing Monday, August 26. This four night package is $116 for a single room and $76 per person for a double room. Additional nights are available at $29 single and $19 per person double. A very limited number of family suites--apartments sleeping up to 6 for families only, are $356 per suite for four nights (a family is defined as one or two adults with 1-3 accompanying children under 15 years of age). Contact your Team Manager for additional details.

The 1996 U.S. Transplant Games hotels are in downtown Salt Lake City, approximately 15 minutes from campus. Off- campus accommodations will be serviced by continuous shuttles from 7:00 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

Food Service

Food Service

Food service is provided in the University Union in a food court setting, which will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of food options including heart healthy and salt sensitive options. Sack lunches can also be purchased through this system for those who will be attending off-campus venues. For all Games participants, food service on campus will work on a declining balance card system. Participants will purchase a card coded with the amount of food service purchased. This card can be used at any of the food service outlets in the University Union and for any meal desired (except special event activities) including a late-night convenient store located in the residence halls. The following amounts are recommended (based on the four night package): On-campus residents: $60; Off-campus participants (lunch and dinner only): $40. Additional funds in any denomination can be added to the card on-site and individuals can purchase meals using cash at any time.

The mandatory athlete entry fee is non-refundable.
