Mission

Mission Statement
To increase the awareness of the minority community to organ and tissue donation,
To serve as the conscience of the transplant process,
And to enhance the quality of life in the minority community, as a result of their participation and increased awareness of the transplant system and its benefits to the community.

Purpose
To provide information and education about organ and tissue donation to the public, to assist donor families in the positive resolution of their grief while extending support in their decision to give the gift of life and to assist the candidates and recipients in their waiting and recovery processes. And to address those issues which may impact upon the transplant community at large.

Primary Goal
To increase organ and tissue awareness and donation, with emphasis on minority involvement

Secondary Goal
To build upon the positive message expressed by donor families, and by using these messages to encourage others to donate, focusing on low donor communities.


Meetings

Meetings will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm at the following location:
St. Marks Day Care Center
505 St. Marks Ave.
Brooklyn, New York

By train: IRT subway to Franklin Ave. Walk about 5 blocks east or take the A train to Franklin Ave. Go upstairs, take shuttle to Prospect Place. Walk 1 block east to St. Mark's Ave.

By car: Brooklyn Queens Expressway to Exit 31 - Wythe/Kent Ave. Turn left at corner. Follow Wythe Ave. around; it will become Franklin Ave. Continue on 1.8 miles (pass Atlantic Ave.) to St. Marks Ave. Turn right onto St. Marks Ave.

The day care center is located directly across from the emergency entrance of Interfaith Hospital.


Membership

All concerned donor families, recipients, candidates, transplant professionals, and community members are invited to join and participate.

Individual (dues $50.00 yearly)
Any individual who demonstrates interest, devotion and expertise to promoting the goals of COMET.

Chapter (dues $150 yearly)
Any group of individuals formed under the guidelines of the National Council to promote the goals and interests of COMET.

Organizational (dues $150 yearly)
Any not-for-proft organization whose interests or efforts can be construed as beneficial to COMET.

Corporate Sponsorship (dues $500 yearly)
Any society, institution, partnership, foundation, or corporation whose interests or efforts can be construed as beneficial to COMET.

Advocacy
...to focus on promoting the self-esteem of individuals in the minority commmunity

Telephone Tree
...to reach out and provide emotional support to members

Religious
...to reach out to the religious community

Media/Public Relations
...to be the liaison between the media and COMET, as well as arranging public awareness events

Communications
...to develop donor awareness materials

Schools/Education
...to bring donor awareness programs into the schools and communities

Physical Recovery Program
...to promote the prevention of organ failure and to enhance recovery in transplant recipients

Ways and Means
...to develop fund raising methods
