Eleanor G. Jones

Ms. Jones joined the TransWeb team at its inception in December of 1994, and began as TransWeb's full time editor in March of 1995. Her primary responsibilities at TransWeb are:

  • conception and development of educational programs, such as The Transplant Journey
  • member of research team studying online public and patient/family education (from original concept, proposal-writing and IRB approval through implementation, data analysis, and directions for future research)
    • Current study: "Targeted Intervention to Increase Living Kidney Donation," a 3-year, $1.02 million Department of Health and Human Services research grant with partners at Columbia and the UM's Institute for Social Research.
  • solicitation and editing of content contributions
  • overall content direction, including additions and updates to the site, and longterm planning
  • project administration (hiring, supervision, coordination of volunteers and students, account management, etc.)
  • public and sponsor relations (responding to inquiries, questions, and suggestions; project summaries and progress reporting)
  • promotion of TransWeb in the transplant community and with the general public; including presentations and demonstrations at meetings of transplant professional organizations, patient groups, high schools, colleges, donor families, etc.
  • serving as team leader and content editor of 9 on-location webcasts around the world (most recently, the 2004 U.S. Transplant Games in Minneapolis
  • and in July at the 2005 World Transplant Games in London, Ontario)
  • fundraising and grant writing

After earning a bachelor's in English from the University of Michigan, Ms. Jones managed a group home for developmentally disabled adults, earned a master's in Education, taught children to read, and helped foreign-born graduate students edit their theses and learn American English. A long-time Ann Arbor resident, Ms. Jones spent occasional weekends over five years proofreading the Ann Arbor Observer, a monthly magazine.

Since 1990, she has developed transplant newsletters and helped create several other educational publications (including the web presence) for Michigan Transplant.

Free time pursuits include studying information design and interaction design (Edward Tufte, Alan Cooper, Donald Norman, et al.), reading Dickens, learning to make not-so-sour sourdough bread, listening to public radio, learning the cello, travel, herb gardening, camping, and amusing two Norwegian Forest Cats.
